You might be wondering how Grace Joy and Wonder can help your pets? (And you?) Here’s how!!!
Grace Joy and Wonder. Simple concepts. Profound feelings. States of being.
These are my themes for 2024. Last year I was very goal-driven, wanting to achieve things, to get things done. I loaded my plate way too high, got indigestion, some mild burnout, and had a reasonably stressful second half of the year (selling and buying and moving home was a whole lot of icing on that cake!). This has left my body and my mind a bit tired and depleted.
This year, I’ve decided to put how I am feeling at the front and center of how I live my life. I’m making that a priority – and I know that this will bring incredible benefits for my pets. Because when I’m overloaded, stressed, tired and run down, this means I have less time, presence, and connection to give to my animal companions. Not ideal!
Yes, I still have big dreams. Yes, I am still taking consistent, intelligent action every day to bring them to life – always doing the ‘next best thing’. Yes, I am highly motivated to make a massive difference in the world, and empower people to heal their animal companions.
BUT! I am insisting on feeling Grace Joy and Wonder as I do all of this. I’m making this a real priority. That takes change – I’ve reduced my workload, and pushed some deadlines further out. And I’m also making time to do creative things like pottery, art, and music. And of course time with my beloved.
Let’s dig into the meaning of Grace Joy and Wonder. Definitions, and the deeper meaning that comes from the history of these words.
Grace: Favour or goodwill, a quality of moving in a smooth, relaxed, and attractive way. The deeper meaning is: unmerited favor, love, or help.
Joy: A settled state of contentment, confidence and hope. The deeper meaning is: source of pleasure or delight.
Wonder: to be filled with admiration, amazement, or awe. The deeper meaning is: admire; make wonderful, magnify.
What you give to yourself, you give to your pets! (Guess what? This includes Grace Joy and Wonder!)
The thing is, you have to create this. It won’t happen by itself. You have to look at your life, and make real changes, to change how you feel day-to-day, week-to-week. Nothing will change without taking action. And like so many things, doing this is really simple, but not always easy.
Giving yourself grace, in my experience, requires a deep letting go, and trust or faith that there is some kind of higher power that will look after the how and when of your dreams coming to life. It involves focusing on doing the best you can in this moment, and not stressing about the future.
Joy needs to be created by actively choosing to do things that give you joy. Here’s where your pets can be a huge help. Spending time with my pets gives me joy. Playing with them, going for walks, massaging them. The more you can be present and interact with your pets, the more joyful you will feel. And of course, do whatever activities apart from that that give you joy!
Wonder for me is about opening my eyes to the endless beauty and magic of this day, this world. The land, the waters, the endless sky. The wonderful humans who smile at you as you walk the streets. Good food, exercise, company, and the soul of life.
I invite you to join me in creating Grace Joy and Wonder as you walk through this year. the more you do this, the happier your pets will be!
