Profile
My name is Mary, I’ve always loved animals. Always been very comfortable – and comforted – in the presence of animals. It did cross my mind to train as a veterinarian but I chose not to because I was afraid that I would become too full of pity for and emotionally involved in each animal who may come under my care that I would be not fit to practice as a vet, in fact, the opposite is true as I have discovered during the past 7 years since I began to work with animals in earnest.
So instead I became a physiotherapist (for humans) and worked for 30 years in the UK before retiring to shift to India.
Once I settled in India I soon realised that so many animals were struggling to survive. So I contacted an NGO which was recommended to me. And so, at Welfare for Animals in Goa (WAG), I began my journey which brings me to where I am today.
I very quickly confirmed that being with animals and working with them really is my happy place and it did not take long before I started to become more curious and interested in different ways to help support the healing process of sick animals (without doing a vet degree at this stage in my life) and to facilitate a better quality of life for rescued/abandoned/abused animals.
