SELF-CARE is the most beautiful gift you can give yourself (AND your pets)

Self-care is the best medicine in the world for you – and your self-care is medicine for your pets!

Self-care is the one ingredient that changed my life, and helped me heal from 20+ years of chronic illness with CFS and Lyme. I had to learn how to love myself enough to show up for myself, and do the hard things that lead to greater well-being. That takes WILL. And determination. But above all, the secret ingrediant to a strong and consistent self-care practice in your life is that you make it a non-negotiatible PRIORITY.

That means that you do all the things, no matter how you feel. If I’m unwell, I still do my prnong self-care practices – unless I’m so sick I can’t get out of bed. Likewise if I have an injury. Or stresses or disasters in my life. I may adapt what I do, do less, change the exercises so that I can work around any injuries, etc. But I always do them. All the time.

Here’s what I do – I get up at least an hour earlier than I’d prefer to. I doa whole series of spiritual/energetic practices. I do resistance exercise – mostly bodyweight stuff like pushups, chinups, dips, squats. I want to have at least a little bit of sore muscles every week.

I do aerobic exercise – this is my weakness, and where I need to grow, because, to be honset, I’m pretty crap at getting enough of this.

I do Chi Gong. And I stretch.

Plus I eat well – no stimulants, not too much sugar, no dairy, all organinc, plenty of fruit and veggies, no alcohol.

I tend to my relationships- with my beloved, and my community. I go to a beuatiful men’s group every two weeks. I have acupuncture and massage at least once a month.

I give myself plenty of space for creative joys and having fun.

And my pets benefit so much. I haveseen the positive impact of my self-care again and again.

What you need to do to have strong self-care is…

 

Make it an honest, active priority.

Do it no matter what.

Start small, make it achievable.

If you need to, get an accountability buddy.

If you have internal barriers or blocks, get helps to dissovle and heal them.

Know that things will always feel worse before they feel better with just about everything to do with self-care!

Do it for your pets, because they will get so much more of you,a nd be so much happier and healthier when you are continually filling your cup!
